Jan. 19, 2010 – First Show

January 27, 2010

This week we started off the year with a great mix of tunes, featuring selections from Arcade Fire’s album Funeral in our “Classic Cuts” segment. The album both represented the “Indie Pop/Indie Rock” genre for “Classic Cuts” and was selected this week in acknowledgment of the disaster in Haïti (a song from the album) following the earthquake(s) that hit the island nation. The bittersweet song, penned by Régine Chassagne, a founding member of Arcade Fire and whose heritage hails from Haïti, expresses the hardships its people have experienced throughout its arduous history. Lyrics can be found here if you are curious (site may have pop-ups and some lyrics are in French): http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Haiti-lyrics-The-Arcade-Fire/4A8BC15DACE40A3248256F81000F09BD
